Marc G. Wilcox
ABOUT ME
I am an independent researcher based in Hertfordshire. My main research interest is animal ethics and animal minds. Specifically I am interested in how we can accommodate (non-human) animals in our (human) philosophical theories, not only our ethical theories but also in our theories of consciousness, minds, agency, identity, citizenship, etc. I think that philosophy has been, and to a large extent still is, anthropocentric; over-intellectualising mental capacities and downplaying the capabilities of non-human animals. I am passionate about remedying this through research.
I completed my PhD in philosophy at the University of Leeds in 2018. My doctoral research focused on moral status and agency, with a particular focus on animals.
